Published in the United States in 1975 by Whitman / Western Publishing Company under license from Mattel, Big Jim & His Friends Sticker Fun combines illustrated activity pages with reusable or repositionable character stickers.

The concept allows children to place Big Jim and his companions into different adventure scenes, creating their own compositions rather than simply coloring a fixed image. It reflects the mid-1970s Big Jim universe, when Mattel emphasized outdoor action, vehicles, sports and group adventures. The book is a good example of how the brand expanded into interactive paper merchandise beyond figures and conventional coloring books.

This page below is a cut-out and assemble activity rather than a conventional coloring page. Children were instructed to cut along the solid lines, fold the dashed sections, insert the tabs into the corresponding slots and build a three-dimensional paper model of the Big Jim Rescue Rig. The printed sheet reproduces the truck’s bodywork, wheels, front cab, rear platform and crane, with Big Jim characters integrated into the design.

The concept extended the book beyond coloring by introducing a simple paper-model construction project, combining manual dexterity, following instructions and imaginative play. Once assembled, the Rescue Rig became a lightweight paper version of the Mattel vehicle, linking the activity book directly to the Big Jim toy line.
