Big Jim French Competition Advertisement – 1983

This French advertisement promoted a Big Jim competition organized by Mattel in 1983. Participants had to identify the six Big Jim characters shown in the pictures and send their answers before January 15, 1983.

The competition offered an impressive first prize: a one-week trip to California for three people. In addition, 1,000 Big Jim equipment sets could be won.

To enter, participants had to complete the form with the names of the six characters and their personal details, have the entry stamped by their usual retailer, and mail it to Big Jim/YKA in France.

This advertisement is an interesting example of how Mattel promoted the Big Jim toy line in France during the early 1980s, combining character recognition, collecting and the appeal of an American adventure.
