9496 Bicycler

Mattel’s Big Jim reference 9496 was released in Europe during the second half of the 1970s as the Cyclist, also catalogued as Bicycler or “Coureur cycliste.” This vintage Action Set outfits Big Jim for competitive road cycling with a yellow short-sleeved jersey featuring red and blue horizontal stripes, black cycling shorts, a black protective helmet, black shoes and light-colored gloves. The Big Jim figure is not included, as stated on the original packaging. The set belongs to Mattel’s extensive sports-themed collection and was designed to complement the Big Jim racing bicycle sold separately. Surviving sources date reference 9496 between 1976 and 1978, reflecting variations in European cataloguing and distribution.
