9495 Surfer

Mattel’s Big Jim reference 9495 was released in Europe in 1976 as the Surfer action set, also identified on the German market as Wellenreiter. Designed around Big Jim’s sporting universe, this vintage outfit equips the figure for a day on the waves with a yellow short-sleeved top featuring a surfing emblem, blue trousers, yellow swim fins, and a large surfboard. The figure itself was not included with the outfit. The combination of dedicated clothing and an oversized sports accessory is characteristic of Mattel’s mid-1970s Big Jim collection, when the range expanded into numerous outdoor and athletic activities. Reference 9495 therefore represents the surfing theme within the European Big Jim vintage sports assortment released in 1976.
