9400 Thunder Horse

Mattel’s Big Jim reference 9400 is the Thunder Horse, also marketed under regional names including La Foudre. Introduced around 1976, this vintage articulated horse expanded the Big Jim Western adventure universe and was produced in several variations during the late 1970s. The best-documented version is a dun or ochre-brown horse with a black mane, tail and dark lower legs. It was originally equipped with a dark brown Western saddle, matching bridle and silver decorative stickers. Early examples used metal joints, while later production adopted plastic joints, creating a notable variation within the same reference. Mattel also issued a curry-coloured Italian version under reference 9400. This Big Jim horse is an important accessory within the Mattel vintage Western collection, designed for mounted cowboy and outdoor adventure scenes.
