9258 The Leader

Big Jim The Leader, Mattel reference 9258, was released circa 1975–1976 as part of the Big Jim P.A.C.K. adventure series. This vintage version of the team leader is commonly identified by collectors as the “Gold Commander” to distinguish it from the earlier blue-outfit Commander, although the original Mattel box clearly presents the character as “The Leader.” The figure wears a black sweater with the P.A.C.K. wolf insignia, gold-colored trousers, black boots and the distinctive wolf-head belt. His documented equipment includes a silver wrist communicator, shoulder holster and pistol, reinforcing his role as commander of Mattel’s specialist action team. Reference 9258 is also notable for its illustrated P.A.C.K. packaging and the promotional comic book advertised inside the box.
