8860 Cowboy

Mattel’s vintage Big Jim Cowboy outfit is officially documented as reference 8860, part of the early “Suit ’Em Up for Action & Adventure!” range. Specialist records place the US issue in 1973, while surviving Spanish Congost packaging is dated 1974, making 1973–1974 the safest commercial period. The set equips Big Jim for a classic Western role with a plaid shirt, tan or brown vest, blue denim trousers, cowboy boots and hat; sealed examples also confirm a lasso and brown belt. Reference 8858 is not confirmed as a Cowboy number: the specialist Big Jim Forum instead associates 8858 with the Boxer outfit, alongside 8863.
