Mattel’s Mark Strong Commando Outfit, reference 8578, was released in Europe in 1972 as part of the early Mark Strong range closely associated with the origins of Big Jim. Designed around a military-style commando theme, this vintage outfit gives the character a darker, more tactical appearance than the sporting sets issued alongside it. The original carded example shows a black jacket bearing a red-and-white shield insignia with three stars, matching black trousers and a contrasting white belt. The packaging carries the distinctive “Mark Strong – The Man from Mattel” branding used for this short-lived European collection.
