Mattel’s Big Jim Astronaut outfit, reference 7146, was released in Europe in 1983 as part of the Adventure Sets range. Created for space exploration missions, this vintage set gives Big Jim a silver-grey astronaut uniform with a padded jacket and matching trousers, accented by blue fastening straps and a United States flag patch on the sleeve. The equipment also includes a protective space helmet and a white life-support backpack, reproducing the essential gear associated with orbital operations. The outfit was sold without a Big Jim figure. Its realistic NASA-inspired styling distinguishes this Mattel reference from the more futuristic space costumes produced elsewhere in the range, while linking the collection to the scientific and technological adventure themes developed during the early 1980s.
