2029 Tarzan and the Giant Ape

Mattel reference 2029, officially released as Tarzan and the Giant Ape, dates from 1977 and was produced for the American market. The set pairs Tarzan with a large articulated gorilla, placing the character firmly in a jungle-adventure setting. Tarzan uses the familiar Big Jim-style muscular body and is dressed in a simple beige loincloth; the package also includes a small jungle knife. The giant ape features movable limbs and the dramatic “thrashing arms” play feature highlighted on the card. The packaging is especially distinctive for its dense illustrated jungle artwork and comic-book presentation. This vintage Mattel reference 2029 forms part of the late U.S. Big Jim-related Tarzan range and is documented in specialist Big Jim collection databases as a 1977 release.

Real heroes always live great adventures.
